DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
Provision of IT Support services for the development and operation of the local IT environments for the project SuFiA (JRC.D.2)
Collaboration with the Directorate D ICT Team to manage and develop ICT centralized service
Installation, configuration and maintenance of servers' operating systems
Performing minor (patching) and major Operating System upgrades as requested, in compliance with the Commission IT security policies and best practices
Performing preliminary diagnosis of software and hardware problems, also in co ordination with the central IT departments
Scripting & configurations in context of systems & infrastructure; install, configure and maintain system scripting procedures
Handling of backups and restore operations of systems & infrastructure; manage the specific SuFiA backup infrastructure
Administration of scientific users in line with JRC ICT policies
Monitoring of and responding to system and application logs (error logs, disk checks, virus malware checks)
Maintaining technical documentation
Provision of capacity planning analysis. Performing tuning activities when required
On demand restore customer files from the backup system
Maintain and monitor the storage systems (log analysis to ensure availability and correct performance)
Keep up to date the managed asset inventory
Coordinate with the JRC IT services for the provisioning of users, hardware, network connectivity and software
Coordinate with JRC Helpdesk for the central IT service requests
Provide first level/second level user support to a community of about 20 users
Install, configure and maintain workstation's operating systems (Windows and Linux). Perform Minor (patching) and Major Operating system upgrades as requested
Administer Linux servers for: data gathering from external providers; databases; web applications. IT environment includes DBMS PostgreSQL, Docker, Apache, Liferay
Collaborate with other members of the ICT team to maintain and manage PostgreSQL centralized infrastructure
Interaction with the business analysts, customer, users, project leaders and the developers
Security administration and monitoring, in adherence to the security rules imposed by the Commission’s central security service (complemented by local rules where needed); under supervision of the LISO (Local Information Security Officer)
Specific Expertise MANDATORY
Bachelors Degree at IT or a related field
15+ years of total IT experience
at least 5 years of specific expertise in Linux system administration
at least 5 years of specific expertise in containerisation tools: Docker, Kubernetes
Experience in Windows system administration
Demonstrated experience in script programming (bash)
Following specific expertise is optional for the performance of tasks.
Experience with Liferay
Additional Requirements
Very good knowledge of Ubuntu Linux
Very good knowledge of Container management with Docker and Docker swarm management, pipeline, CI/CD, Gitlab server management
Very good knowledge of WildFly
Very good knowledge of monitoring tools
Good experience with data backup/restore tools and practices for both database and operating systems
Good knowledge of Web Servers
Good knowledge of virtualisation tools and techniques
Good knowledge of TCP/IP network management
Knowledge of master-slave database concept (PostgreSQL)
Knowledge on Ansible
Ability to do basic scripting for automation
Basic knowledge of application development environments
Ability to draft basic conception documents, diagrams and reports
Analysis and problem solving skills
Ability to participate in technical meetings and good communication skills
Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self starting capability and experience in working in team
Ability to participate in multilingual meetings
Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on multiple large projects
Excellent Team Player
Ability to understand, speak and write in English (B2), Italian will be an advantage
